Thank you again for everything. You know how much I love you, your classes and the mental and physical training you provide for us for birthing. I still credit yoga and your classes with not having to
push very much just like last time and my ability to "keep my mind" right as everything was happening and not get too distraught as decisions were being made. I can vouch that having to labor in a bed
is just not the way to go and I would much prefer being able to move/walk/stretch but it is what it is and we have a healthy family to
show for it and another empowered mom.
I will see you soon in Baby's Massage and Mommy and Me!
Love,
Casey K, 2nd time prenatal student and mom, Baby’s 1st Massage and Mommy and Me yoga graduate. Labored 33.5 hours through a stomach bug, was able to deliver vaginally even as many interventions were used. Nov. 2011
Thank you for all your support and for encouraging a positive birth experience. Kim C. Oct. 2011
I want to thank you very much for being a great guide through my pregnancy. My husband and I enjoyed the partner prenatal yoga classes. Your classes were a great forum for pregnant women to share their experiences and you provided great resources to be well educated about all interventions to be prepared to make the right choices for the big day. The breathing techniques I learned in your class helped me keep calm through the stressful times during the labor.
I will see you soon in the mommy and me yoga classes.
Thanks Again
Divya A., October 2011
As a yogi, I appreciate the way Mimi encourages everyone to slow down a bit and really tune in to what body and baby are saying. It's definitely more laid back than a traditional vinyasa flow class, but it's exactly what's needed.
--Rosalie W, September 2011
Yoga has helped me to develop flexibility, strength, focus, and awareness of the connection between the mind, body, and spirit. All of these skills were needed during my labor, as well as the loving support of my husband, mother, friend Kate, and the compassionate dedication of my medical team.
It was a long labor. I began having strong, regular contractions around midnight on Thursday evening. I did not dilate to 10 cm. until Saturday evening around 8:30 pm, and my daughter Elena Rose was born at 9:01PM
I had planned on a natural birth and did not want to use any painkillers or an epidural; however, I was open to the idea that I might change my mind and that the use of interventions did not mean failure on my part. I had planned on being flexible. I labored at home for the first 6 hours, then headed to the hospital when the contractions were between 3-5 min. apart. I was able to use yoga postures and breathing, as well as visualization to help me cope with the pain. My favorite was to imagine a rose growing up during an inhalation, and to watch the flower bloom during an exhalation. I wanted to send the message to my cervix to open up!...
Around 8 pm they checked my cervix and announced I was at 8 cm! Things moved quickly then, new nurses brought in carts and supplies for the delivery, and before long I was being instructed to push. I had purposely let my epidural wear off some (it was the kind you self-administer extra doses at the press of a button), because I wanted to be able to feel the urges to push. I did feel them, and pushed when I felt like it, and was able to give birth to my beautiful girl in 30 minutes! She was placed on my chest, skin to skin, and I can't tell you what joy that was to have her in my arms, and to have the labor finally over!
Other women's birth stories were very helpful to me in reducing my anxiety and preparing me for all kinds of different scenarios and outcomes of labor. I hope that my story will be encouraging to other women, and I know that yoga will continue to help us all remain strong and flexible for whatever may come. Now I need a yoga for breastfeeding moms class!
With so much gratitude, Charity L, Sep.2011
"I went into labor at 37 weeks and had my baby on Monday, August 22. She is healthy, 6 lbs 10 oz, 20 inches long! Her name is Aimee Pamela.
I really enjoyed your class and feel your teachings were very beneficial to me. I did have an epidural, but I feel like I made an informed decision. Thank you for the great information! I would definitely like to continue my yoga practice and eventually return and take the Mommy and Me yoga and learn about the infant massage. I know there are many benefits and would love to learn more. Take care and thanks again for a great workshop! Lisa J, August 2011.
Hi, Mimi! YES I have good news!
Harper Joy was born on Fri Aug. 19 at 8:11am. She was PERFECT!
I labored for a good
24 hrs at home (yay!) before finally checking into the hospital.
...I attribute my wonderful delivery to all my exercise mentally, spiritually and physically throughout my pregnancy, and staying aligned (chiropractic).
Thanks for all the breathing and education, Mimi! I've never 'breathed' so much in my life as I did throughout this labor experience! ;) My husband and I both thank you for all we learned in my yoga classes and our partner prenatal yoga classes. We felt strong and prepared on many levels because of you. :) xo
p.s. I have to sing the praises of Medical City Dallas. Our stay there was so enjoyable and the staff was AMAZING. The nurses I had in labor and delivery and in postnatal were THE BEST and helped me so much! That was an answered prayer.
Thank you so much for all of the information you send. What would we do without you?! I can feel my acid reflux and swelling going away already. Thank you also for including the list of doulas....Thanks to you and the resources you provide, I am well educated compared to where I was in my first trimester. I feel empowered to refuse interventions and can cite evidence-based research that supports my decisions. I probably will have the confidence to have future children at home. Ann C, August 2011, student since May 2011.
I had a natural birth like I had intended. It was the most difficult thing I have ever done but I was very proud of myself I got thru it. My little boy, Chace, came out perfect and very alert. Chace came out perfectly healthy and my pain went all away- that's all I ever wanted of this whole process. We did skin to skin contact immediately and I nursed him for the first time within the first 10 minutes. He never had problem latching on.
It took a lot of will power and determination but it can be done. For me having a support person that you trust and love is critical in this process. My husband did so great. Without him I don't think i could get thru it the way i did. I have learned a lot thru your class. You are so great at what you do. I would recommend your class to anybody that's expecting. Katie K. 1st time mom, July 2011.
Mimi’s class is very helpful. It is a place to talk openly with other pregnant women about pregnancy issues, run concerns and questions past the group. The classes gave me a better understanding and range of ideas on how to do kegels, motivation to do them more often and a time weekly to relax and just focus on me. She sends out emails weekly with encouragement and resources for additional things that can help. I wish I would have started the classes at the beginning of my pregnancy and not the end.
Not only was it a yoga class, but a great educational and encouragement time for me. I highly recommend her to anyone who is pregnant.

Our daughter, Vera June was born last Wednesday, after 18 hours of labor. It was an unmedicated, water birth and was the hardest thing I've ever done, but I am so happy I achieved my goal and now have a healthy and beautiful daughter.
I had been trying everything I could think of to start labor since I was past my due date and I finally decided to take a day off from "trying". I rested alot and that night at 4am my contractions started I was able to stay relaxed and let them wash over me like waves by using the breathing techniques from class. I spent the day going on walks outside, resting, eating, and watching Funniest Home Videos. Finally at 4pm we left for the Birth Center...[ ] We went on one final walk and ate some food before checking in to the birth center. From this point on, I don't recall much in detail, but the contractions were overwhelming. It helped for me to stand and be active, instead of lying down. I tried to stay above them and be relaxed, but they were very intense. I was offered Nubain + Fenergan for pain relief but refused, instead I used the shower and then got in the birthing tub for some relief.
Once in the birth tub things really seemed to speed up and become even more intense. I rocked back and forth, moaned, cursed, and cried. I had been stuck at 7cm dilation for the 3 hrs I had been there and the midwife noticed part of my cervix was stuck on the babies head. She manually moved it and my water broke. Ouch! Immediately I had an urge to push, within 30 minutes I moved her down and pushed her out. I was so ready to be done and meet my baby!
I would definitely advise all mommas-to-be to 1) hire a doula 2) use music/massagers/breathing techniques to stay relaxed 3) do perineal massage before delivery
Thank you for everything I learned in your class. I am so happy to share my story with you and your classes and hope that it will inspire others that all-natural is possible. Alicia B. June 2011.
" We had a beautiful experience and I attribute a lot of it to my yoga practice. Thank you Mimi! I will be back if we decide to have a 3rd baby for sure." Kate T, second time mom and yoga student. April 2011.
"Thanks, MiMi, the yoga helped so much with all my discomforts during the pregnancy." Kristi D., April 2011.
"At least the afternoon colic is getting better...I think the massage really helped! We do that now almost every night, followed by a quick bath, and she has been sleeping very well (for the most part). I'm definitely recommending the class to others." Sasha G., 1st time mom. Pre and postnatal yoga student, baby's 1st massage graduate. April 2011.
"I appreciate that your classes gave me the knowledge/courage to talk to my doctor about the kind of birth that I want. When I first found out it was twins I was feeling like there weren't many options, thank you for the materials you sent me. I will keep you posted and hopefully see you in a few months. Thanks!"Whitney-28 weeks pregnant with twins-March 2011.
"MiMi, I just wanted to give you an update on my baby:
Marco William arrived on March 19, 2011. He was a week early! The delivery happened incredibly fast. I arrived at the hospital at 12:20 am and he was born at 2:47 am.
I went all natural again! No epidural, no drugs or anything. I was a little nervous about how the natural delivery would go this time since I had to stop doing yoga at 28 weeks and had pelvic muscles problems. I never stopped practicing my breathing, relaxation and kegels so that really helped.
I am very grateful for everything I've learned in your classes.
I hope to see you soon in Mommy and Me or Baby's First Massage!
Mari B., second time student prenatal and postnatal yoga, and baby's 1st massage student, March 2011
"Regardless of how any mom wants to have her birth go, I would definitely say that your prenatal yoga class was amazing. You taught us so much stuff that you do not learn in prepared childbirth classes or even pregnancy books. There are so many emotional & physical benefits from your prenatal yoga class...such healthy habits to get into (like Kegels). I have already lost all of the pregnancy weight" Amy, Feb. 2011 one month postpartum.-
"The
massage techniques are really helping. I took 4 of them that seem to
work great for him in concert and created my own little massage time for
Connor. It is making a huge difference. I really appreciate all of
your help." Christine, Frisco, TX Feb. 2011-getting help for Connor's digestive problems.
"My
baby arrived perfectly healthy (minus his colic which I know won’t last
forever) and during my horrible contractions all I could think about was the
lotus flower, which did help me relax. In
just 2 weeks, the entire baby weight I gained has dropped! I credit being in
shape and doing yoga for this
Most important, I was told with a 3rd degree tear I would have problems controlling my urine….NOT True, thanks to the millions of kegels I did, I am completely fine and enjoying life not having to go to the bathroom all the time. I miss your class and hope all is well. For anyone thinking about taking your prenatal course, I would tell them it is a MUST DO!!! Betsy d., Dallas. June 2010
"Things are moving along wonderfully and we are expecting Saylor to arrive some time next week.I really enjoyed the yoga classes.. My only regret is not starting them earlier! I wish my schedule could have allowed me to do so. I am sending some of my other pregnant friends your contact info, in case you have any openings in the future. Thanks for making my pregnancy more enjoyable (and bearable!)". Shelby J., Frisco. June 2010
“I would LOVE to do postnatal yoga and mommy and me yoga- Ava and I LOVED doing the yoga together (with you) and I cant wait to do it again!”Jennifer M, Dallas. June 2010.
"We
arrived at the hospital around 1:45a and checked in. The nurses were
wonderful & so was my doctor. They listened to me and what I wanted
to do. Everything that I learned in your classes including partner yoga
worked. I was dilated to 5 when the pain in my lower back was
extreme. I have a herniated lower lumbar disc so I felt even more
pressure with the pain. I then decided to get the epidural and I took
your advice and did not allow it to take over. I still felt all the
contractions and was able to breathe through them. I ended up pushing for
about 30-45 minutes and he was born. I did not tear below....THANK YOU
KEGELS! I did tear a little on the side.Within
a matter of minutes I was skin to skin with my baby boy. He spent every
night in the room with us & because of it my milk came in pretty
quickly. He is doing well and we are all adjusting.Thank
you for what you do. We could not have done it without your classes. Dana
J. April 2010
"I also wanted to thank you for all your support and encouragement during my pregnancy. It was so wonderful to have your experience and knowledge.
“I wanted to let you know Baby Travis arrived at 1:17 am
on wed morning after a 4 hr labor!!! …Thank you for teaching me the "ah
" breaths and many other useful tools I used during labor and delivery. I
could not have gotten through an unmedicated labor without your training.
It was a quick and intense labor after my water broke at
9 pm. We barely made it to the hospital at 12:45 am. They checked me and I was
dilated to a ten! Thirty minutes later and three pushes we had our sweet baby
boy.” Caroline O., 2nd pregnancy with BreatheYoga!
“I believe that your yoga helped me during labor & delivery and in recovery too. I used your breathing techniques early on in my labor. Also, I had a strong shivering reaction to my epidural (which apparently is pretty normal) and the breathing helped me keep my muscles from tensing up. Also, the nurses kept telling me that I had great movement & they couldn't believe how much I could do on my own. Walking after surgery seemed pretty easy & my recovery is feeling like it's ahead of schedule. I account all of it to my pre-natal yoga. I probably would have had a harder time getting through this monumental life event if it wasn't for your class. Thank you so much for all that you have taught me.” Stephanie P. Feb. 2010
"You have one more yoga baby
that was brought into the world!
Our son, Caden Lee was born at 5:23 am Saturday morning after 30.5 hours
of labor!!! Talk about a marathon! He weighed in at 7 lbs, 19 inches and is
doing very well. All of
the breathing and stretching we worked on really helped me cope with the
contractions and work through them on my own with the support and strength of
my husband. However, after almost 25 hours, I was still stalling out and getting stuck. I
did end up getting an epidural mainly for the sheer exhaustion of such a long, hard labor. It
ended up being a very wise decision because it was almost 6 more hours before I
was then ready to push. At that point all of your training came into play and
after 20 min of pushing ( about 6 transactions worth) he was here! Everyone
couldnt believe how quickly he came once I started and what a "good
pusher" I was. We are all doing well. Even with an unbelievably long and trying labor, I really cannot complain about my birth experience.
We had WONDERFUL nurses here at Medical City who did nothing but support and
encourage our choices and were extremely respectful of us trying to go natural.
Even at the end they were right there coaching as well. Every choice we made I
got to think about and make without feeling pressured or scared into anything
which is what I mainly wanted and most importantly the baby was doing fine and
handling the process well. He just wanted to take his time! Thank you again for your
advice and teachings in the months leading up to his birth. I would not have
been in such a mentally focused or confident place or as physically ready to
handle labor without you and the classes. It is the best advice for anyone I
know who is expecting! See you soon!"Casey K. Feb. 2010
"My husband and I loved your class. It was so very
informative and relaxing.
"I had never taken yoga before getting pregnant. I took prenatal yoga throughout my ENTIRE pregnancy and it was amazing. The health benefits were only outweighed by the emotion and mental benefits. I had a very easy pregnancy with no health problems and I am 100% sure it was in a large part due to my yoga practice at MoveStudio. My teacher had an amazing understanding of her teachings, and was always willing to listen and help in any way possible. I have now been taking mommy and me postnatal yoga, and love it as well... " -- Jennifer, May 2008
“Baby was born on Sat, Nov. 10. My labor and delivery were completely natural. It was the best experience of my life. My doctor and doula were very impressed with all my breathing “knowledge”. Thank God for Yoga, Doulas and my mother’s genes. Thanks for the music and all your awesome yoga sessions and tips”-- Mari B, Nov. 2007
"Mimi, Our daughter was born November 1st. I was able to have a completely natural delivery and it was amazing…
I wanted to thank you for everything you taught me in preparation for the birthing experience. I was able to utilize so many of the techniques and I really used the cleansing breath to let go of the transition contractions. I made myself use them even when it didn't feel like the contraction was gone and it was just like muscle memory, my whole body relaxed. I was so glad you told us so often how and when to use the breaths. Also I was able to stay present with each contraction and observe what was happening, It made the entire experience less frightening.
Our daughter is so amazing and I'm so glad we were able to bring her into the world drug free! Thanks for everything, we couldn't have done it without your preparation…
Thanks again," -- Ellis, Nov. 2007
"MiMi, I just wanted to take a minute and say thank you for all you have done for me. I was a bit apprehensive about taking the yoga class. From day one, you were so kind and welcoming and I really enjoyed it! "

--Vanessa Ogle, CEO-Enseo, Dallas, TX
"I was thankful for all I learned in yoga class because concentrating on my breathing was the absolute key to getting through the contractions. I used sounding as well when I was
breathing and the contractions were so strong and it really helped to keep my jaw relaxed so even though it might feel silly doing it in class tell everyone to remember it when they are in labor! ;-) I will miss getting to come to your class and thank you so much for all of your teaching..."
--Kathy Wright, Frisco, TX
"Unfortunately there were more... complications... Call me crazy but I would do it again a third time due to such a great experience this time. I know it had a lot to do with yoga throughout my whole pregnancy and in recovery, keeping me with such a peace of mind. I can't wait to get back and wanted to try the mommy and me class"
--Monica Rutledge, Frisco, TX
